Objectives of the education trade unions during the new academic year

More than half million of children started on the 15th of September the new academic year 2008-2009.
The first day is a feast for all of them, especially for those who are starting the long way of schooling for the first time, as well as for their parents and their teachers.
The first day is a feast, but at the same time it is a starting point for realisation of the objectives of this school year, involving pupils, teachers, parents, school administrations and also education trade unions.
Some of the main objectives of FSASH and SPASH during the new academic year are:
- Further increase of salaries, harmonisation of wage system elements among various categories of teachers, based on their graduation level, differences between minimal and maximal salaries, elaboration of criteria for the remunerations and motivation of teachers, distinguished teachers, as well as legal solutions to make possible early retiring of teachers who are working for more than 35 years in teaching profession.
- Close collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Science in order to elaborate and implement legal contemporaneous standards on nomination of principles of the schools and teachers themselves, in order to prevent and stop transfers without any criteria, based on corruption or one-sided party interests, as it has happened not so rarely.
- Further engagement of FSASH and SPASH aiming to increase their leading capacities, to realise a real social partnership, especially in second level with educational directorates in regional and district level, to enlarge the number of teachers involved in child labour prevention and elimination, through avoiding their drop out from the school, as well as to enhance the role of women and young teachers structures in the framework of local trade union sections.
- A lot of activities are also planned in the framework of FNV/AOb Project, especially regarding enforcement of trade unions, improving their economic and financial situation, through membership fee collection, as a precondition for effective activities in members’ protection and progressive development of education system in Albania.
